Goodbye heating oil, hello renewables!
Do you care about the environment but still heat your home using oil? If you would like to heat your home with renewable energy but have been put off by the cost or time to make the change, Forest Row Energy can help you.
Forest Row Energy have been awarded a grant from the Rural Community Energy Fund to help rural communities transition from using heating oil to renewable technologies. To meet our national carbon reduction targets this work is a must.
As part of the project we will support 50 households, that currently rely on heating oil, to go renewable. Our focus will be on installing heat pumps and we won't be looking at using biomass to heat homes. We are working with OVESCO, a neighboring community energy co-op as part of the project.
Once we have shown that our approach works we plan to roll out an initiative to support more households.
How does it work?
The project is all about making renewable heat for your home as easy and cost effective as possible. For each household that is part of the project we will assess the property, produce technology designs and complete a whole-life financial analysis that will show you show you your best options and the savings you could make.
We have designed the assessment so that we won't need to enter your property during the contact restrictions due to Covid-19.
We will assess your home by:
surveying the outside of your property;
asking you for information and pictures about the interior of the property;
reviewing any building plans and other documents such as your Energy Performance Certificate, if you have them; and
looking at your energy use.
As part of the project we are developing a not-for-profit funding initiative that will look to make the installation and any required insulation upgrades as affordable to you as possible. This will be supported by the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), the government subsidy for renewable heat, which has been extended until March 2022.
Eligibility and Application
To qualify to take part in the project you will need to:
Own a home within 15 miles of Forest Row, East Sussex that is not a listed building and be using heating oil to heat the property.
Have loft insulation and cavity wall insulation in place, if possible. An upgrade to your insulation may be required to get the government subsidy for renewable heat. We are planning to support insulation upgrades as part of the project and will be developing an approach to do this during the summer of 2020.
Allow us to undertake an external survey of your property and provide us with information and photographs about the interior of your property.
Be available by phone to discuss your property between 9am-6pm Mon-Fri.
Provide us with your energy bills, ideally for one year.
Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in place for your home that is less than two years old or be willing to get one. We can complete your assessment without an EPC and if you want to go ahead with the install we can provide one for £55 once the Covid-19 government guidelines allow.
We hope that you will be able to take part in the project.
