Grants & funding
There is more help available than most people realise. Below is a plain-English guide to the main schemes, who each one suits, and how to apply. Not sure if you qualify? We will tell you, free.
Who it suits: Homeowners replacing a fossil-fuel boiler (gas, oil or LPG) with a heat pump. Available across England and Wales.
The government pays a grant straight to your installer towards an air source heat pump (or biomass in some rural cases), so it comes off your quote. You need a valid EPC with no outstanding insulation recommendations, and an MCS-certified installer.
How to apply: Choose an MCS-certified installer (see our vetted list). They apply for the grant on your behalf and deduct it from the price. We can review your quote first.
Who it suits: Lower-income households, and homes with a lower EPC (D to G). Income thresholds or certain benefits usually apply.
The government's Warm Homes Plan funds insulation and low-carbon heating for eligible homes, delivered through councils and social landlords. What you get depends on your home and circumstances.
How to apply: Eligibility is assessed on income, benefits and your home's EPC. Tell us your situation and we will help you check and find the right route.
Who it suits: Households on qualifying benefits (ECO4), and a wider group of homes in lower council tax bands (Great British Insulation Scheme).
Energy suppliers fund insulation, and sometimes heating upgrades, for eligible homes: loft, cavity and solid-wall insulation are the common measures.
How to apply: Apply through your energy supplier or a scheme installer. We can help you work out which you qualify for before you commit.
Who it suits: Anyone with solar panels (and ideally a smart meter). Not a grant as such, but money back.
Energy suppliers pay you for the electricity you send back to the grid. Rates vary a lot, from around 3p on basic export-only tariffs to 15p on the best switchable ones, and higher on some installer-bundled deals.
How to apply: You need an MCS certificate for your system and a SEG tariff with a supplier. See our guide to good rates, and we will help you pick a strong export tariff.
As a rough guide: if you are on oil, LPG or an old gas boiler, look first at the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. If money is tight or you are on certain benefits, Warm Homes and ECO4 could cover insulation and heating. If you already have, or are adding, solar, make sure you are getting paid through the Smart Export Guarantee.
Grants change often and the rules can be confusing. We keep track so you do not have to, help you work out what you actually qualify for, check any quote, and point you to vetted installers who can access the schemes. We sell nothing and take no commission.
Grant names, amounts and rules change. We keep this page under review, but always confirm current details before committing.
Tell us a little about your home and we will point you to the right grants.
